If you use WordPress’ Android app to update and manage your site then I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news (WWE fans will get that) for less than 10% of you – WordPress have announced that they will no longer be offering support for Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
WordPress have been accommodating 2.3 into their releases long after most developers gave up on it, but according to their official blog they have decided that this must now stop as the amount of people using 2.3 has dropped to less than 10%.
…we’ve been seeing the usage of our app decline on Gingerbread, to the point that it’s now less than 10%.
This means over 90% of our users are paying a “Gingerbread tax” – waiting longer for new versions and not seeing features that take advantage of their phones – so that we can continue supporting older devices.
Since the latest version of Android is 4.4.2 (KitKat) I am rather surprised they have continued supporting 2.3 for as long as they have, and if you are one of the “less than 10%” still using WordPress mobile on 2.3 then it is high time that you treated yourself to an upgrade.
